First Baptist Church 2/28/2009
Highlights of the day were coffee bar , bar-b-q, and roof decking!Gioia house #1 has cabinets in the kitchen. As members of the work crew ooed and awwed them, James who built them explained that "Like houses, cabinets are mostly air and you just have to decide where to put the walls around the air."
Gioia house #3 will be dried in soon. Roof decking was going on while a symphony of saws, hammers and compressor played in the background. Daniel was supervising this project and was on the roof most of the morning.
First Baptist Pastor David Edwards was on hand and giving a hand in the construction as well as other members of First Baptist Church. Some of the ladies had Bar-B-Q going inside house #1. Father Monk from St. John's was seen on the site in his work cloths as well.
Navarro College Honor Students 01/31/2009
The first blog post features a video from a Saturday work day with Navarro College Honor Students. There was a lot of fun - and a lot of progress was made to both current projects on Gioia Circle.Navarro Habitat project #3, which is at the same time house #1 on Gioia circle was started in summer 2008, a few weeks after the dedication of project #2. As the construction made excellent progress, it was decided to start on project #4 (Gioia Circle house #2) even before project #3 was completed. Construction for #4 began in late fall 2008. The video footage shows how much has been accomplished on two houses, in just a little more than half a year, and for the better part working on Saturdays only.
